Spider-Man: Brand New Day has done what no film in history has ever done — its trailer has crossed one billion views. Sony dropped the trailer on March 17, and within four days it had eclipsed every record in the books, not just from cinema but from the entire world of digital media. Tom Holland’s name is now synonymous with record-breaking blockbuster marketing.
The prior benchmark for a movie trailer’s 24-hour debut was set by Deadpool & Wolverine at 365 million views, itself a barely-beaten record from Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s 355.5 million. Add to those the gaming world’s benchmark of 475 million (Grand Theft Auto VI), and Brand New Day‘s 718.6 million first-day total is all the more jaw-dropping.
According to WaveMetrix, 1.1 billion total views had been recorded by Tuesday — the first time any trailer has ever hit the billion mark. The performance underlines Marvel and Sony’s unmatched ability to drive global audience excitement well ahead of release. Marketing professionals are already studying the Brand New Day campaign as a masterclass in modern blockbuster anticipation.
The trailer’s story pulled at heartstrings globally. A lonely, forgotten Peter Parker — invisible in the eyes of MJ, Ned, and the rest of New York — must summon the will to protect a city that doesn’t even know his name. He looks to Bruce Banner/Hulk for a path forward, setting up a team dynamic that fans are already excited to see play out on screen.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton with a screenplay from Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film arrives July 31. Tom Holland leads a cast that includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. It will be available in six languages for Indian audiences.
