US President Donald Trump has publicly expressed his gratitude to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk for his commitment to contribute SpaceX shares to American children as part of the Trump Accounts program. The initiative, launched on July 4, aims to assist families in building long-term savings for children, with Trump emphasizing that Musk’s generosity will enable the youth to have a stake in the nation’s economic future.
Elon Musk made the announcement of his pledge on social media, stating his intention to distribute one SpaceX share to every child in the United States next year. He described this as the first of several planned contributions. This pledge follows a prior commitment by SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and her husband to donate shares to over two million children, predominantly in Central Texas.
The Trump Accounts program is designed to support children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, with the government contributing $1,000 to eligible accounts. Parents and other contributors can add up to $5,000 annually, with the funds accessible to the beneficiaries when they reach 18 years of age.
Trump’s acknowledgement of Musk’s contribution also suggests an improvement in their relationship, which had been strained over disagreements regarding the administration’s tax and spending policies. The earlier discord had been publicly visible on social media, but recent developments indicate a move towards reconciliation between the two influential figures.
