Spain Faces Dramatic Weather Shift: Chilly Mornings and Warm Afternoons

by admin477351

Spain is preparing for a significant weather shift this weekend, as temperatures are set to plummet to near-freezing levels in parts of the country before rising again to summer-like warmth. The central and northern regions, including cities like Ávila and Segovia, are expected to experience chilly mornings with temperatures dropping to 3°C and 4°C, respectively. Other inland areas such as Burgos, León, Salamanca, and Huesca may see temperatures around 5°C.

In stark contrast, southern Spain will remain considerably warmer. Cities like Seville and Huelva could see afternoon highs reaching 31°C, while Granada, Málaga, and Almería are forecasted to experience temperatures of around 27°C. Cádiz and Córdoba are also expected to enjoy milder conditions, with temperatures climbing to approximately 28°C.

This sharp temperature disparity means residents and visitors should be prepared for a cold start to the day, necessitating warm clothing, which they might want to shed as the day warms up. Alongside these temperature fluctuations, weather warnings have been issued for heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas, particularly along the Mediterranean coast and in southern regions.

Girona’s coastline is under orange warnings due to strong winds and waves reaching heights of three to four meters. Menorca is also facing severe marine conditions with waves up to four to five meters, driven by strong northerly winds. Weather alerts for wind, rain, or thunderstorms are also in effect for parts of Mallorca, Ceuta, and Lanzarote. These conditions could disrupt ferry services and impact outdoor activities such as coastal walks and beach visits, prompting travelers to check local forecasts before making plans.

As the weekend progresses, warmer air is anticipated to spread across much of Spain, starting from October 12, bringing temperatures back above seasonal averages. Cities like Badajoz, Córdoba, Huelva, Ourense, and Seville might again see temperatures exceeding 30°C, with Madrid expected to reach around 25°C. Consequently, despite the initial cold, Spain’s weather could feel more akin to late summer than autumn in certain areas next week.
