Currently ranked 85th in the FIFA world rankings, Bulgaria’s position is only slightly ahead of Luxembourg, which is 14 places below.
The team has been primarily competing in League C of the UEFA Nations League, reflecting its recent struggles to match the achievements of previous squads. Under the guidance of head coach Aleksandar Dimitrov, Bulgaria has managed three wins, one draw, and four losses since his appointment in September of last year. Among these results, a notable victory over Georgia during World Cup qualifying stands out.
Midfielder Ilia Gruev, who joined the English Premier League side Leeds United in 2023 after playing for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, is one of the key figures in Bulgaria’s current lineup.
