Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s recent visit to Baku marked a significant move in bolstering bilateral relations between India and Azerbaijan. During his trip on October 23, Jaishankar met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to discuss opportunities for strengthening cooperation between the two nations. This meeting underscored both countries’ dedication to enhancing diplomatic ties and exploring avenues for mutual benefit.
Jaishankar conveyed warm greetings from Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed appreciation for President Aliyev’s positive stance on developing relations with India. The discussions between the two leaders aimed at reviewing the current state of bilateral relations and identifying potential areas for collaboration in the future.
This visit to Azerbaijan by a high-ranking Indian official follows a series of recent diplomatic engagements. On October 16, India’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Abhay Kumar, presented his credentials to President Aliyev, reaffirming India’s commitment to deepen bilateral interactions. Furthermore, earlier in October, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, participated in the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku. At the summit, Singh emphasized India’s dedication to promoting peace, cooperation, and regional stability, while advocating for collective efforts to combat cross-border terrorism.
In addition to these diplomatic efforts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Aliyev held discussions on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on September 1. These consistent diplomatic exchanges highlight the sustained efforts by both nations to fortify their partnership and work together on issues of shared interest.
The latest meeting between Jaishankar and Aliyev signifies a continuation of the dialogue aimed at enhancing cooperation and building a strong bilateral relationship. As India and Azerbaijan explore new pathways for collaboration, the diplomatic engagement between the two countries is expected to expand, paving the way for increased cooperation in various sectors.
