EU Approves €170 Million Aid for Bulgarian Farmers Amid Rising Costs

by admin477351

The European Commission has sanctioned a state aid package amounting to €170 million for Bulgarian farmers grappling with escalating fuel and fertiliser costs, which have been exacerbated by the ongoing Middle East crisis. This financial support is set to be distributed in the form of direct grants aimed at alleviating the pressures of increased input costs for agricultural producers in Bulgaria.

Under this scheme, individual companies are eligible to receive up to €50,000. The aid distribution is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2026. This initiative is part of a broader effort to support the agricultural sector in Bulgaria, which has been facing various economic challenges over the past few years.

This latest aid package follows a similar state aid scheme approved in 2024, where approximately €169 million was allocated to assist Bulgarian farmers. That earlier package was designed to mitigate the effects of higher energy costs and the economic repercussions of the war in Ukraine, further emphasizing the ongoing support from the European Commission for the agricultural sector in Bulgaria.

These efforts highlight the European Commission’s commitment to sustaining the agricultural industry amid fluctuating economic conditions driven by international conflicts and crises. The support provided aims to stabilize the sector by easing the financial burden on farmers, ensuring they can continue production despite rising operational costs.
