In Germany, approximately 14,000 heat-related deaths were recorded between April and early August, marking it as the most lethal summer for heat since record-keeping began. Spain followed with nearly 5,000 deaths attributed to the relentless heatwaves since May, also setting an unprecedented record. France documented about 7,300 excess deaths from late May through July, although this number is still preliminary, as August data has not yet been included. Other European countries such as the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, and Switzerland have similarly reported significant upticks in mortality amid the extreme temperatures.
