Saudi Arabia and Serbia are forging a stronger bond through enhanced economic and diplomatic collaboration, particularly in sectors like energy, technology, agriculture, and trade. Recent discussions between the two countries have focused on joint ventures in energy and advancements in information and communications technology. Additionally, they are pursuing opportunities to integrate advanced technologies and agricultural initiatives. Both nations are keen on expanding the presence of Serbian businesses in the Saudi market while simultaneously encouraging Saudi investments in Serbia.
In a significant step to ease diplomatic interactions, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric met in Belgrade to sign an agreement that waives visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This initiative is expected to streamline official exchanges and strengthen bilateral relations.
The trade relationship between Saudi Arabia and Serbia has been on an upward trajectory, with bilateral trade reaching $121 million in 2025, a remarkable increase from the figures recorded in 2012. The first half of 2026 saw trade levels soar to $130.4 million, marking a 152% increase compared to the same timeframe in the previous year. These figures underscore the growing economic ties and mutual interest in boosting trade activities.
Looking ahead, both countries are gearing up for significant global events like EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh, which are anticipated to serve as platforms for further investment, business collaborations, and the sharing of expertise. Saudi Arabia has confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027, intending to highlight its achievements in economic development, innovation, culture, and investment prospects.
In addition to these initiatives, there is an active exploration of partnerships in science and technology. Serbia is also preparing for a substantial presence at the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, where more than 50 Serbian companies are expected to participate, showcasing the potential for further collaboration in food industries.
